Review of Adrian Cooper's "Our Ultimate Reality"

Some weeks ago I was requested to write a review of Our Ultimate Reality, an e-book written in 2005 that has become increasingly popular online. Even though I ultimately found that this book does not offer much original information, it does provide a good overview of a number of spiritual and mystical concepts to those who have just begun to stumble upon them.

The book explores a wide range of topics and after 686 pages split across 114 chapters it is difficult to criticize for being short on content. The content itself, however, reads like a summarized version of all major spiritual concepts. From a chapter entitled Spirit Guides, to Channelling and Out of Body Experience, it leaves year's worth of questions for readers who are new to these topics.

Opening with Part 1: Our Infinite Universe the e-book dives right into the Materialist vs. Spiritualist look at the world that leads one to inevitably conclude that there is more to our infinite reality worth exploring.

I found the book to read more like an archive of topics rather than a linear progression, which makes it a good reference point. However the lack of original sources and references in chapters does make it clear that this is a book to be used for personal learning and not to be taken as ultimate truth.

Upon finishing this book I felt like I had taken in a huge amount of new information even though a lot of it had being known to me before. I was surprised to even find a chapter on Pranic Healing in the book since it is not a method as well recognized like more popular modalities including Reiki and Quantum Touch. Some of the other noteworthy chapters in this book are titled:

  • Definition of God
  • The Emerald Tablet of Hermes
  • The Kabbalah
  • Ghosts
  • Clairvoyance
  • Three OBE Methods

In addition to a number of others.

I had come across this book before and was reluctant to check it out because it seemed to be pushing much too hard to sell itself. However I can state that there are at least a few new concepts I have learned after reading it that will be worth researching further in the near future.

If you are new to spiritual concepts and consider reading this book then remember to take it with a grain of salt - it is not an authority, it is a summarized look at a wide-range of interesting topics. If you have read a fair bit about the topics mentioned above then you might find this book just re-hashes a lot of previous ideas that have been had. There is no doubt however that the width of content here is quite extensive.
