The Transition to a Mind-awake state and astral travel

To experience astral travel a person should first put themselves into a state of deep relaxation. There are a number of processes that occur before the body becomes calm and still, and the mind awakens. However these processes can all occur in a matter of seconds or can take up to an hour depending on the amount of practice a person has had with shifting from Mind/Body.

This week I posted a video on a technique to use breathing as a method of healing insomnia. This technique is also effective for charging the chakras and experiencing astral travel.

However there have been times where using this breathing method I achieved a consciousness shift in a few seconds and other times where nothing at all happened – so it is worthwhile keeping in mind that astral travel is more of an art than a replicable set of sequences for experiencing deeper consciousness.

Mind awake – Body asleep

Mind awake while the body is asleep might sound simple enough as a precursor for astral travel but a lot of people struggle with keeping the mind in a conscious state while letting their body slip into a sleep-state. Since the mind is awake there is no body to keep the consciousness fixed in place in the physical realm – but this does not mean astral projection follows right after. In a number of experiences people get stuck in sleep paralysis and lucid dreaming rather than achieving a full blown astral travel experience.

It requires more than just will-power to maintain a conscious mind, it requires faith that there is nothing to be fearful of during these multi-dimensional experiences. In life we often avoid new experiences due to fear and later learn that it was a waste of time to fear them – there was nothing to fear at all. The experience of astral travel is often much the same, but fear can cause us to become paralysed in our own lack of faith.

Hypnagogic Images

The images in our mind before sleep are often much clearer and more intense than those occurring during daydreams and regular imagination. Sometimes these images are cloudlike or geometric, and sometimes animated when we are in a deeper state of relaxation. There is also a common experience in this transition called 3D blackness where a person feels as though the inside of their eyelids has no beginning and no end – sometimes accompanied by a feeling of sinking or spiralling.

Did You Hear That?

During the time of transition into sleep we can often hear sounds, people talking, and music from the subconscious and superconscious mind. Rushing, popping, ringing, and phases of pure silence are not uncommon experiences when our consciousness begins to shift into the astral. Most of these sounds indicate that a person has progressed into a deep state of relaxation that is close to astral projection.

Sensations and Feelings

One common sensation during deep relaxation is a feeling of shrinking into one self or expanding outward to fill the entire room with your consciousness. Other feeling such as floating, sinking, or twitching are common in deeper states of relaxation. Often our astral-double separates from our physical form at this point and some people are able to feel two sets of arms or legs – one astral, one physical. The physical part often goes numb for the astral-double to be able to project outwards. Once the astral-double begins to exit sensations such as a fast and intense heart-beat, or heaviness, can come about.

Other Energetic Sensations

In addition to the above, changes in breathing and chakra sensations also often occur. I have experienced the heart chakra become so charged with energetic sensations that I thought my heart was going to explode on a few occasions. These energetic sensations can be quite intense, unusual, and even uncomfortable to a person who has never felt them before. Letting go and going with the experiences often allows a person to project their full consciousness into the astral plane. Sometimes a feeling of energetic sensations buzzing all around the body occurs just prior to the exit.

If You have experienced other sensations during meditation, deep relaxation, or prior to astral travel please feel welcome to share them.
