Essence and Existence Metaphysics 101Each and every thing that can be imagined, exists on some level. If a person imagines -for instance- a centaur – this gives the centaur some level of existence. It exists at least on an astral plane or in the Mind mental-level of experience. This object, this imagined thing might have essence, even if it does not have form. Dinosaurs, airplanes, and aliens all exist on some level but which of those levels has essence and form rather than just existence? Dinosaurs do not have essence but did have essence and form at some stage. Airplanes do have essence but did not have essence in the past and might not have essence in the future. Aliens might have had essence in the past or the future, or the present perhaps. How can someone be sure? This discernment becomes a lot easier when considering the frame of reference. Our perspective of essence depends on frame of reference. If someone told a man living in 800BC that in over a millenium airplanes would be invented he might proclaim that you have a wild imagination – but all imagination is-is unmanifested essence. To take this idea one step further let's propose the idea of marriage exists but does not have essence unless a person themselves gets married. Hence essence becomes a matter of personal experience. I do not believe a person has the right to declare what has essence and what does not on a universal level but I do believe it is safe to state that all that is possible to imagine exists – on some level. One of several methods of measuring the fluctuations in existence are our historical models. No-one can know using conventional science what the essence of 1 million BCE was or what the existence of the world in 1 million CE will be like. Our historical models can of course use the present moment of existence as the one we can accept as truth. The present moment is our frame of reference to discern essence and existence – to keep all things from happening at once. But what if time itself is not a fixed thing? Just because a thing had essence in one time frame but not another does not seem to invalidate it or make it untrue. Does it? Nature or the eternal life-force within existence itself is the Unmanifested – it is that aggregation of all existence without essence. The unconscious, the astral. The individual Mind is the painter and with this paintbrush it paints from the possibilities of all that exists "there" but doesn't have essence "here". It is the job of the artist to bring that from "there" over "here". |
