Finding Your Purpose

A friend of mine recommended a website called StevePavlina.com, upon browsing it I stumbled across a page that struck me. The article was suggesting a quick method to find your life purpose or path. The article asked the reader to write this down as a question and then write the first answer that comes to mind. The answer is intended to be short but direct. The process is continued until a person writes something that brings tears to their eyes, this is then supposed to be the true answer. As I see it the intent of this technique is to reconnect to an inner essence; a deeper substance.

I believe that that unconscious mind is so vast that there is no doubt more knowledge contained within it than we can know right now. This is possible to demonstrate in observation of our subconscious actions or reactions from moment to moment. Calling it intuition or unactualized meaning does not change what it is at the core.

This force that we call the soul or the mind is multi-layered. Some layers are aware of partial insights while others possess great knowledge waiting to be discovered. If through inner work a person can discover their inner self then this will lead to the knowledge of others too and also of the greater existence. I consider finding a path best described as: a partial surrender to the potential knowledge within us as oppose to acceptance of just that which is in front of us at this moment. However sometimes it's just a matter of opening ourselves up to what is right in front of us rather than being too concerned with our broader life situation. In either direction it is a matter of realizing the existing path within.

From an infinite ocean of possibilities we select some and with them define our life. When we listen to the inner voice within a multitude of new possibilities come forward. This allows for more meanings to come to the surface and for things to become clear once again. There is an essence that governs whether a person feels they are on the right path at or not. A deeper internal co-ordination system so to speak. A communication within the self, to the self. Those aspects harvest an inner sense of having placement and being on a path. Shutting out the possibilities below the conscious self has the opposite affect.

Choosing a path not out of love but rather out of an intellectual ideal or a common social trend causes that path to be ingenuine. Dualities can always be criticized, but if a purpose or path is chosen out of genuine meaning or love, then how can it be criticized? How can it be wrong?

No quantifiable amount of words can add up to meaning. Meaning and truth are both things that are found by reaching inside oneself. You might wonder what the reason is for all the noise in the world? It is to cause distraction. To cause distraction from discovering the higher purpose of life. Perceiving something as true in one state rather than as absolute truth creates a sense of freedom. In allowing things to be real rather than true a new perspective of purpose can be found. You might ask what is true at the moment, but discovering what is real instead might provide more insight, since when we discover what is real for us then we also discover who we are in that process.
