July 2008 Reflections
From AlexanderThis month things have been somewhat quite at Spiritual Blog. I have decided to release a digital download of a book I had been planning to publish but could not find the right medium for. It occurred to me that this site is the right medium to make it most accessible to people around the world. So I have been spending a lot of time on polishing it up, next month there will be more news on that.
The top videos being watched this month on the YouTube channel I have set up were: Cure Insomnia and Anxiety, Death and the afterlife, and Self-Consciousness Meditation.
I am also quite keen on accepting guest articles at the moment about the topics discussed here or other related topics. I have set-up this blog to allow registered members to comment and submit guest articles after logging in, and turned comments off for non-registered members, as I also mentioned in the new Start Here page available on the top navigation.

Quotation of the month
The darkness which clings to every personality is the door into the unconscious and the gateway of dreams, from which those two twilight figures, the shadow and the anima, step into our nightly visions or, remaining invisible, take possession of our ego-consciousness.
- Jung
Editorial
Sometimes when we stop attempting to hold onto our world and our mode of perception we are able to observe the patterns of the unconscious mind. It is often at night when we let go of our thoughts and tasks to-do that we experience a sense of calm and closeness to our spiritual self. The ironic truth is that our astral self, and deeper understanding, become apparent when we let go of our current stresses and fixations - not as a result of strenuous work and effort.
Recognizing this dispels the presupposition that being more self-aware is a difficult task. It appears as a difficult process because of all the existing attachments and fixations blocking our potential to recognize ourselves. Once we are able to recognize that attachment to a certain mode of thought or existence is counter-productive however we are able to let it go. Letting go means observing the negative patterns of the unconscious instead of going along with the game of perception. Observation without attachment is, in essence, self-awareness.
