Self Surrender
From AlexanderSurrender results in the realization that attachment is both an illusion and a weak energetic force. Once the illusion is no longer fed attention can be given to other areas of being and existence. Rather than leaning or depending on an external structure attention can instead be drawn to the individual self.
People often wear a mask and hide their true self from the outer world through that mask. However as I see it our problems are solved when shared and not when avoided - if never shared, I doubt some will ever get solved. Yet it is too common to avoid a problem and allow it to grow. It is too common to hide rather than to face up to the issues in front of us.
No person has a need to avoid sharing their true self because there is nothing to hide in the first place. The worth of hiding something doesn not do the meaning of "worth" justice. Sharing the Self includes revealing all negatives and positives. It is ironic that a negative - once revealed in a public form - ceases to be negative. Hiding a negative is what gives that negative its power in the first place. Judgment is fear masquerading as truth.
Introspection begins with subtle communication with the self. Observation of the inner communication process brings insights into how emotional and mental blocks are built around the Self. Those blocks are often untruths masking the Self. The conscious action to reject hiding the self results in the development of an individual, rather than just a person; a soul, rather than just a vessel for external ideas.
