I Got 180 in Zazen on 2nd attemptDuring the last 3 months we have been going to the shops at the end of each month to see whether the wii fit console was available. Each month the sales manager would explain that wii fit consoles are selling out 5 minutes after arrival at each order date. Pre-orders were also not being taken. However last month we arrived at the shop, and guess what happened? Just as we had walked up to one of the sales staff and were about to enquire, he turned around and placed 5 wii fit console sets right at our feet. I could not contain myself from commenting: "See, The Secret does work" On the wii fit there is a game called Zazen, where the objective is to sit in perfect stillness in lotus position for as long as possible. The wii fit has a sensor that can detect even the slightest movements and just breathing too hard is enough to blow out the candle on the screen and lose the game. 180 is the highest possible score and requires sitting still without blowing out the candle for 3 minutes. There are other features such as Yoga that I also found great additions to wii fit. In Yoga, the wii balance board (pictured above) detects movements and gives a ranking from 0% to 100% depending on how well a Yoga pose is kept. In addition to giving on-screen instructions, the virtual instructor (also in the picture above), notes down incorrect movements and balance problems that need to be corrected. I think it is interesting in the least to see software like this appearing on the market. In the past television and games where so passive and non-engaging that an almost social-wide de-personalization occurred. If wii fit is the new direction that television and gaming is going in then this process might have a chance at being reversed. I hope that the next generation balance-detecting hardware will provide more challenging Zen and Yoga exercises that measure a greater number of factors. For now, however, Yoga on wii fit is a great motivator when going out or doing it alone seems too much of a hassle. Earlier in the week during a Yoga session I got distracted for 2 seconds and missed a movement, so the virtual instructor got upset and said "Hey! Your muscles are not going to improve themselves". Hilarious. |
