The Importance of Independence

In this blog post I would like to allude to an article that compliments my view on the importance of independence, and not just in spiritual pursuits, but in all of our actions. Every once in a while the New age will get glimpse of some powerful idea and transform it into a form of social marketing. The Secret and The Power of Now (socially-friendly version) are two examples.

It is great that a wider audience is opening up to spiritual awareness and their greater inner potential but it also makes me wonder how much information is watered down before it reaches the global consciousness.

Sometimes people see spiritual ideas as escapes or paths towards fulfilling all of their needs and desires. I spoke with a few people after watching The Secret who claimed that they had the same power as God and could manifest their realities with a simple intention sent out into the universe. It becomes dangerous when we believe that these tools to discover parts of ourselves are intended to help us amplify materialism and emotional desire more and more rather than aiding us in discovering the true self.
